When I was young, I wanted to be an ice skater. My brother wanted to play hockey. The two of us would go to a pond close to our house and practice our respective future skating selves.
To say we were hopeless was kind. Our ankles were on the ice where the blade should be. We didn’t seem to know just how bad it was.
Today, another storm is coming this afternoon, early evening. I went to pond’s edge and smiled. There were some skates awaiting someone’s ankles.
The scent of snow is in the air as I take the photo and navigate my sure footed self in my red suede Merrells over patches of ice and snow left over from another storm.
Some dreams just don’t have the right pair of ankles. But Merrell makes a fine pair of shoes for those of us with dreams unlived.

I love hockey! But I’m terrible on ice, we used to play street hockey at school on asphalt surface.

Palpinao, my eight year old grand nephew loves hockey and is going to the The Boston Bruins this weekend. He is very excited to see it. Me? I close my eyes most of the time when they head for one another as if they are going to kill them with their stick or bodies.
Thanks, Mt. Brooks. I used to love roller skating, too! I was better at that but not by much. Ah.
Everything in this photo is so well placed… from the skater to the shoes to most especially the lines leading into the scene. You already have my best weekend “lines” shot beaten :)
