Sometimes I just like to take a straight photograph.  Nothing fancy.  Just the basics.

But, I think the same impulse would rather have seen this “Rapid Fill” station be a Mobil, Exxon or Shell or Gulf, names from my past.  Granted,  Rapid Fill, to my knowledge (I can’t even find any information about it in Google) has not yet had a catastrophic oil spill like the Exxon Valdez, but who in their right mind would name a ship “Rapid Fill Valdez” anyway?

A gas station named Rapid Fill is bad enough.

Grrrr. Mumble. Grumble.  Grumble. Mumble.  Bitch. Moan.

Sometimes, I just like to whine, too.

  1. Looks more like one of those drive-up hot dog joints . . .

  2. Nice shot. I find such industrial things strangely fascinating.

Years ago I took a double exposure shot on large format film of a petrol station. The camera was set up on a very big, heavy and stable tripod and the first exposure was of the station at sunset (about one stop underexposed) and the second exposure was when it was fully night and all the lights were on. It was beautiful and if I had a scanner for large format I’d scan it and put it up on my blog as a response to your shot.

  3. Tysdaddy, With car window service and waitresses on roller skates? I’d prefer that to petrol!

Razz, Oh, I would LOVE to see it. You don’t have a print of it you could photograph? Sounds wonderful. I like these industrial things, too. In fact, I’m going to post another shot from my industrial park foray on Saturday soon.

  4. It looks like you live in “Big Sky Country” with this one … and others before it.
(too long surrounded by mountains I guess)

  5. You know, Ross, I used to visit Big Sky country often in the 90’s and I agree–some of the skies I have photographed in my small town rival them. I had no idea, either, until I began photographing the town, the type of skies we had. I must have always been looking down. You could do a good illustration about the looking down girl.

  6. too funny! here at ‘single for a reason’ i get to know so many new and interesting things, get to laugh, to see great photography, to be thought-provoked and wondering, to see clarity and humor, challenged by ideas, everything that is good for art, its just plain wonderful Pat!

  7. O, Tipota! It’s the opportunity to find people like you that is the benefit of this daily blog for me. Sometimes what you say as well as others finds a permanent little niche in my head and helps me think about the world a little more clearly.

  8. As usual, you have made something common look gorgeous & timeless. The trucks in the background are not even too modern for this. Thank you for reminding me to choot away at the common because one day the common will be retro archives somewhere.
