  1. Just renewed my membership to the botanical garden. Think I might go over there with the macro lense this Sunday. They’ve got a ton of tulips and daffodils.

  2. How cool is this photo…. I wanna do that!

  3. I am so jealous of your photographic eye.

    This shot is gorgeous.

(Um, does it make me a pansy-boy if I like the flowers?)

  4. This ia a case of when the limited depth of field of marco photgraphy works so well. The colour is just perfect.

    • I love this color, as well. Razz, you might know the answer to this: when I am shooting with my macro lens I very rarely have to use Levels or Curves and never do any color tweaking. Why is that?

      • It probably has something to do with how macro lenses focus. Apparently the closer you get to an object the more balanced the colors become – less falloff, more color consistency, etc. Also, I’m guessing you have a decent enough lense, which means it’s designed to achieve the optimal constrast. Better contrast = less post-processing. :)

      • Thanks, Chris. That sounds right to me!

  5. Wow, what an image. Love the shallow depth of field and the slight purple tinge to the background. Spring has really sprung, huh?

    • Spring has started, then stopped, then restarted! Each year, it takes me a couple of weeks to switching from my wide angle normal shooting to macro!

  6. Beautiful!! absolutely beautiful!!! Can’t wait to get out there with the blossoming beauties myself. Unfortunately the tulips aren’t out in full force yet! When they are however I can assure you that I will be snapping away, although I doubt I could ever get a photo as stunning as this one!

  7. Pat, I have a 50mm Macro… I have been trying to decide on what other I should buy. Some say I should buy a 100mm, others say I should blow my wad and buy a 200mm. *sigh*. A friend suggested I buy a 60mm.

I purchased a couple of 10x magnifier lens filters – they suck.

I do think macro photography is my gig… but I like how you got the willowy edge to the daff… great work!

  8. You are right Cousin Pat.
Keep up the beautiful flower photo work?
