If a journey, a course, a distance and lifetime of a thousand or even a kabillion miles begins with one step, consider this step one.

I’ve got to do something new.

This– whatever it is– began with this photo taken while walking from the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston (and a wow experience with work from Jasper Johns and Jim Dine) to a doctor’s appointment.  A walk, a city, a museum which opened in the 1870’s and is about to open a new wing in November, and a 65 year old photographing her feet.

  1. Your shoe, pointing, reminds me of the moving cursor on the Ouija board. This one is aimed at courses and distances.
Maybe you can’t see your own evolution for being immersed in it, but you’ve exhibited so many change-ups to your blog through your processes.
In part, the internal desire to keep creativity fresh, isn’t helped by feeling the pressure to blog about something different.
I’ve always felt a sense of new directions from you Pat.
And I’ll follow you anywhere you take me.
    Thanks for the mention.

  2. Stepping off in new directions is so exciting, isn’t it? I think it defines part of the difference between creative endeavors and more technical areas of expertise.
This image of step one says so much about that feeling of stepping off into the creative unknown. I have no doubt it will be rewarding!

  3. You said “journey”!

  4. Mea culpa! How WW & Eat Pray Love of me. Never again, I swear!

  5. You’ve got to do something new? I thought you were doing something new with the self-imposed media blackout.

I like Bonnie’s description of a Ouija board. (How come it didn’t sound right when I first typed “an Ouija” and then changed it to “a”.)

I must admit, while I do like your photo very much, I couldn’t take my eyes off your shoe. Which I like. Which then reminded me of a poster for DSW (Designer Shoe Warehouse which has more shoes in one place than you can imagine). The poster was of the cutest puppy ever and a pair of shoes. It said something like if you didn’t notice the puppy you were in the right place.

  6. Great image.
Really strong and I’m glad you’re posting again.

  7. Your words and your photos illustrate “going the distance” so well.
